Tai Chi of the Eight Immortals

There are five primary forms or “styles” of Tai Chi: Chen, Yang, Hao, Wu, and Sun.

Each follows the same premise, which is to combine meditation and martial arts, but there are some slight variations.

Essentially, all Tai Chi styles have far more in common with each other than they have differences. All improve health, reduce stress and help you move more gracefully.

All develop chi and use slow motion, flowing, and circular movements most practitioners choose to learn based on the quality of the teacher, the convenience of the school, and other personal factors.

Many of the Tai Chi classes in the Tampa Bay area offers courses of 24 movements of Yang style, 96 movements of Chen style, or other many variations.

My 20 Years of Experience

Now, I will talk about my 20 years of experience teaching internal arts in America.

I have students who come from other Tai Chi centers. One of the things they have in common and share with me is the frustration they experienced trying to learn all those 24 or 96 moves.

In Sadana Center we perform the Tai Chi style of the Eight Immortal Taoists, which are only eight movements.

This form of Tai Chi is not popular in the United States. And, we are the only center in the Tampa Bay area that teaches that style. So, if you come to our center for the first time and have practiced Tai Chi in the past, what you will learn from me will be totally new to you.

Taichi of the Eight Immortal Taoists

According to Chinese medicine, we not only have a physical body; we also have an emotional and a spiritual body that creates eight layers in the body.

These eight layers are connected to the eight directions of the universe called Bagua.

Ba means number eight, and Gua means houses.

In the cultivation of Tai Chi of the Eight Immortal Taoists, we harmonize the eight layers of the body: skin, muscles, tendons, face, blood vessels, bones, bone marrow, and blood.
